In this questionnaire we ask the founders and participants of the Vox show “The Lions’ Den” questions about their products and experiences on the show. This time: Alla Emmerich and Jen Sternemann, the founders of alla and jen.
Wrinkle reduction while you sleep: This is the promise of the facial tapes from alla and jen. The cotton tapes are intended to relax facial expressions, promote blood circulation and elasticity of the skin and support the body’s own collagen formation.
The ingredients contained in the glue, goji berries, Sichuan pepper and hyaluronic acid, can be absorbed into the skin for several hours when used overnight. The three different facial tapes Eyetape, Smiletape and Foreheadtape are intended to ensure targeted application.
With this concept and their product, Alla Emmerich and Jen Sternemann, the founders of alla and jen, were able to impress in the VOX founders show “The Lions’ Den” and secure a deal with investor Ralf Dümmel.
alla and jen: The facial tapes from “The Lion’s Den”
BASIC thinking: Hello Alla, hello Jen, you are in the sixteenth season of “The Lion’s Den”. How does that feel?
It’s absolutely surreal to actually stand in front of the lions and pitch with our own products.
What makes your product so special?
We have revolutionized beauty sleep. Our range includes skin tapes for the face to minimize and prevent wrinkles. And this, completely relaxed overnight. The functionality is based on the proven use of elastic tape to support the body’s self-healing powers.
Our skin tapes help the skin maintain a youthful appearance, not just because of the base, but because we have also managed to integrate ingredients into the adhesive without them being able to evaporate.
The idea and the concept
How did you come up with the idea and your concept?
Alla was sitting in a familiar “girls’ group” where the topic of “skin aging” came up: it was about what you wouldn’t have tried before without having achieved the desired result. At some point it was about blood circulation and the breakdown of hyaluronic acid.
They talked about what already exists to promote blood circulation and that’s how they came to the topic of taping: Familiar with sports, taping helps with blood circulation and puts the skin in a kind of resting state. Now all that was left was to get the right active ingredients into the tape.
Alla approached Jen directly as a marketing and beauty expert. Jen has been a makeup artist for many years and focuses intensively on the condition of the skin and, above all, active ingredients so that she can ultimately achieve the perfect result for her customers. She also knows every product and trend on the market. And so the idea for the skin tapes was born.
“The Lion’s Den”
And how did you end up at DHDL?
Jen applied to us “secretly” and that’s how everything started.
What was going through your mind shortly before your pitch?
We were very excited and tense. We had a lot of respect for the situation.
How did the subsequent negotiations go?
Shortly after filming, we had our first appointment at DS in Hamburg with Ralf and his team. We sat together for a whole day and talked about the products and our collaboration. Since the first appointment, we have seen and heard from each other at regular intervals and worked together on alla and jen.
This is how things continue for alla and jen now
What has happened to you and your product since filming and participating?
We are now expanding our e-commerce area and preparing to enter retail. We develop new products and initiate possible collaborations.
Looking back: How do you rate your experiences at DHDL?
An indescribable journey: We would take part again and again.
