September is the month of new devices and this year too, despite some uncertainty (we explain why below), with iPhone 15Apple will present the new Apple Watches. Let’s talk about Apple Watch 9 supported by Apple Watch Ultra 2023.
Very little has been said about these two products compared to the iPhone, but there is some news and among these some that seem very reliable. We summarize everything you need to know in this article.
The Apple Watch, together with the iPhone, has become one of the most anticipated products by the public for years, with annual updates. In recent times, however, the innovation process has slowed down very noticeably so much so that we can say that the latest model is capable of introducing important innovations it was Apple Watch 6.
Will there be a new Apple Watch in September?
According to some sources within Apple, in fact Apple has pondered the possibility of lengthening the update cycle times, a purpose that is already a reality for iPad. This is the consequence of the maturation process of the device on which it becomes difficult to apply innovations at the same pace as in the first years of its debut.
It is no coincidence that in 2022, Apple has focused attention and research on Apple Watch Ultra, a substantially new and different product from the Apple Watch we know today, different in form factor and dimensions.
In any case, it’s new for this year Apple Watch 9 should be there. Waiting for a really new Apple Watch that could arrive in 2024 or 2025.
Apple Watch 9, dimensions and colors
Let’s start with what doesn’t change. The number of Apple Watches. The devices are currently known by the codes N207, N208. A third Apple Watch, named, N210 is expected to be Apple Watch Ultra 2023 edition.
The two Apple Watch 9 will be identical with the only difference being the dimensions which should not change, we will have the classic ones 41 and 45 mm variants.
One thing that should be new is the choice of colors. Alongside the classic silver, sidereal grey, galaxy which with the red of the PRODUCT (RED) constitute the translation, we should also have two new colours. At least that’s what some eastern sources predict.
We are talking about gold color (which for now is only for the steel model) and rose gold. The latter has long been used for the aluminum back of the iPhone as well as devices such as the iPad mini and iPad Air.
The hardware news
We said above that Apple has long pondered the possibility of no longer introducing a new Apple Watch per year due to the impossibility of making substantial progress in the hardware in such a short time. Even if in the end this idea was set aside mainly to avoid being uncompetitive with the competition (especially Fitbit and Samsung) who present new products every year, the update will be there but there is no big news on the horizon for Apple Watch 9.
Indeed, let’s just say that we are faced with the expectation of a routine update that will bring very few, functionally speaking, new features compared to Apple Watch 9.
Processor improvements
The main novelty of the new model will be the new processoror better, the S9 processor system. This is no small update if you consider that the Apple smart watch has basically not changed its processor since the launch of Apple Watch 6.
The Apple Watch 6’s SIP (System on a Package) was the S6. Apple introduced the Apple Watch 7 with the SIP S7, and then the S8 with the Apple Watch 8. But all three of these processors were based on the A13 used in the iPhone 11 with 7-nanometer circuitry. Their CPU (this is different for other components, such as the gyroscope and accelerometer) is the same and it is therefore not surprising that Apple has always compared the performance to that of the Apple Watch 5 which the SIP S5 had.
With the SIP S9, Apple Watch 9 will be able to take a leap forward thanks to the fact that it changes the A15-based CPU, the iPhone 13 processor that not only it was very fast but particularly economical in consumption.
Based on what was learned shortly before the launch of the new models, Apple Watch 9, taking advantage of the new SIP, will be able to offer some innovations in the field of c sensorswhich are practically all located within the SIP.
At the moment there is no specific news; Apple Watch has numerous sensors, from the gyroscope to the altimeter to the compass. The only specific mention is to the heart rate sensor. We can think that the new heartbeat reader could become more precise. It can also be assumed that the new Apple Watch, thanks to the updated sensors, may become capable of automatically reading a greater number of exercises.
Apple Watch 9 battery life
For this reason we can expect that one of the best new features of Apple Watch 9 could be one greater autonomy.
However, the new chip could also be used for features that we should see with watchOS 10, the operating system on which Apple is working and which we should see in the first beta version in June, on the occasion of the annual developer conference. According to rumors circulating so far, watchOS 10 should boast, among other things, also a new widget system.
Often, Apple has preferred to keep the battery life unchanged (more or less), while introducing important features, such as the always-on screen. It cannot be ruled out, therefore, that the reduction in consumption of the Apple Watch processor will be used to give it new features
New straps
From what has been learned recently, Apple intends to apply an ecological twist to the world of its accessories by getting rid of all those in natural leather. At this point the leather link straps should disappear. According to one rumor spread by Mark Gurman it also seems that Apple is liquidating all Hermes bracelets at a 90% discount for the benefit of employees only.

The rumors therefore speak of a new bracelet in a material similar to fabric made using a new technology and a new material. This bracelet (cost $99) would also be marked with a magnetic buckle, similar to the current Modern Umber strap.
Apple Watch Ultra 2023
The Apple Watch Ultra was introduced in 2022, but it looks like there will be an update in 2023. It is not yet clear what Apple could include in this new version, but a new processor is a given given that there will be the new processor in Apple Watch 9.
Another novelty could be the color. Apple experimented with a titanium tint dark, abandoning the idea of introducing it with the launch of the Apple Watch 2022. The good time could come with the 2023 model.
New Apple Watch SE
Historically, Apple has not released an annual update for the Apple Watch SE, so it’s more likely that there won’t be an update in 2023considering that the latest version was launched in 2022.
Apple Watch
As we said above, Apple has been cultivating the idea of completely renewing Apple Watch for some time on the occasion of its tenth anniversary. This could be set either in 2024 (ten years from announcement) or 2025 (ten years from availability).

Submission date
It is speculated that Apple will present the iPhone 15 line on September 12th via a largely digital event. The same stage should give life to the new Apple Watch 9 series, as well as Second generation Apple Watch Ultra.

There don’t seem to be any conditions for further price increases, considering that the changes to Apple Watch 9 will be minor, except for the chip. So you can expect list prices identical to the current models.
