Apple may not be ready to introduce some of the upcoming USB-C headphones toWonderlust event Of Tuesday 12 Septemberwhen instead it is now certain that the entire iPhone 15 line will make its debut, the first to abandon the historic Lightning port in favor of the more widespread USB-C.
Second Bloomberg the company would not yet be ready to market what should be a small update of the AirPods, which would remain the same apart from the charging case which, instead of the Lightning port, will mount the USB-C.
The announcement, however, would be postponed to 2024when together with the new AirPods the second generation of AirPods Max will also be presented, over-ear headphones which should receive the same update through the replacement of the Lightning input, the one positioned under one of the pavilions, with the new USB-C port.
AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C will be there instead
However, it is surprising to discover that AirPods Pro 2 (here is our review) with USB-C should make their debut in just a few days together with the iPhone 15, without any difference in terms of technical specifications apart from the new case equipped with a USB-C input for charging the battery.
Self this should prove to be correct – and we will have confirmation on Tuesday evening: if you want, you can follow the live broadcast with us by clicking here – it would be a real surprise: AirPods are in fact Apple’s best-selling earphones and the fact that the company simply doesn’t have a USB-C case to offer its customers, especially at this time of year which goes towards the big sales of Black Friday and Christmas, appears anomalous to say the least.
Why not?
Also because Apple has been selling two versions of at the same time for some time now AirPods 3 (here is our review), one with the Lightning port and one with the case enabled for wireless charging via MagSafe; so there would be nothing strange in adding a third or replacing the Lightning one with the new USB-C.
The delay for AirPods Max with USB-C instead could be justified by the fact that these headphones they have not been updated since 2019 (here is our review) and just changing the entrance door would not be enough to encourage purchase: people expect a much more high-performance second generation (which we have already had the opportunity to talk about in this article).
