On the evening of September 12, 2023, there was a Apple keynote pure infotainment again. Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the company has been producing its product demonstrations as stylish, glossy films with a rapid narrative pace in order to pack in as much information as possible in as short a time as possible. And yet not all details always make it into the event. That was also the case iPhone 15 (Plus, Per, Max) the case.

Those responsible also spoke about the upcoming operating systems during the event watchOS 10 and iOS 17 without mentioning their start date. The company only revealed this in the press releases about the new hardware. From September 18, 2023, charging will be permitted (probably in the evening in Germany). By the way, this also applies to iPad owners. If you wanted to know when you could click the update button on your Mac, you even had to go to the website macOS Sonoma surfing, because the computers played no role at the event. It starts a little later here – the time has come on September 26, 2023.
It has been known since June 2023 that the updates provide many new functions. Apple presented iOS 17 & Co. at WWDC. What is only now coming out: The software package for the iPhone also includes new ringtones. That has 9to5Mac found out based on an almost finished version of iOS 17. There are over 20 new melodies to choose from.
iPhone 15 with unchanged battery life?
Another detail is at Android Authority noticed. A comparison of the hardware specifications of the new smartphones with those of the previous iPhones showed that nothing has changed when it comes to battery life. This means: The iPhone 15 should last just as long as the iPhone 14. The data for the Pro models also match, although they are equipped with the new A17 Pro processor, which is supposed to be energy efficient. However, only a device test can reliably say how long the battery life actually lasts.
There should be reason to be happy for owners of the iPhone 14 Pro. At the event, Apple announced a new 48-megapixel camera for the iPhone 15. This makes it possible, among other things, to display images in full resolution in HEIF format (stands for High Efficiency Image File format). Apple is introducing this option with iOS 17 9toMac also for the Pro models from last year.
However, fans have to say goodbye to another iPhone. Apple traditionally takes the online store offline before big announcements in order to incorporate the new products. This also happened on September 12, 2023. After the event, the company expanded the range to include the new products – and deleted the iPhone 13 mini, but did not mention this with a single syllable in the keynote. If you still want a small iPhone, you can still find the mini at other retailers.
Firmware update for the AirPods
Also new: While you still have to wait for iOS 17 & Co., there is already a new firmware update for the AirPods Pro, Pro 2 and Max. Using the new software, the AirPods Pro 2 should automatically switch to the correct listening mode (transparency mode or noise cancellation) or automatically switch on transparency mode during conversations. With all compatible Apple headphones (AirPods Pro, Pro 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Max) it is possible to mute or unmute phone calls after the update. The automatic connection switch from iPhone to iPad or Mac should also be improved.
