After a first discovery at the Munich show, the new generation Tesla Model 3 is on display at the Lyon show. This is the opportunity to once again observe in detail the new features of this highly anticipated model.
A little less than a month passed between the Munich trade fair, where the Tesla Model 3 was presented to the public, and the Lyon show. As in Munich, the Tesla stand at the Lyon motor show is one of the main attractions. Except that unlike the Munich show, here the manufacturer’s other models are also present and also attract people.
After having seen and rewatched the new generation of Model 3, have our first impressions changed? Our opinion has changed on certain developments of the model. However, there are still a few obstacles, for which we will probably have to wait for an understanding to help decide our opinion.
Adapt to the new design
The new front face is certainly the element that most symbolizes the new generation of Tesla Model 3. Upon discovering the model at the Munich show, first impressions were quite mixed on this new design. Tesla seems to lose a little of its uniqueness with this more conventional front. A plunging hood with a pointed front is also what we find on the Hyundai Ioniq 6there MG4 or the BYD Seal (not to mention supercars). The old front bumper – the “duckbill” as some owners call it – was never unanimous, but this one should continue to divide.
Certainly linked to the fact that we are (often) resistant to changes, it took these few weeks to get used to this new design first. The same goes for the rear of the vehicle and the shape of the new lights. Once the novelty has passed, change is adopted. There still remains a small reservation, will Tesla stand out enough on the road in the coming years? It is too early to tell until the vehicles are circulating in the flow of other cars.
Tesla, on the other hand, made a questionable choice by retaining the trunk rather than a tailgate. However, this was one of the recurring complaints that fans of the brand would have hoped to see change with the new model. It’s ultimately this detail that always upsets us a little.
An opinion on the interior generally unchanged
The changes to the interior are the ones that were the most obvious to accept, but not necessarily for all the new interior features.
Overall, the interior appears more qualitative. The finishes, the materials, the assemblies seem to have evolved in the right direction. From the seats to the rear screen, all these elements advance the perception of quality that one can have of the Model 3.
Two new interior elements must, however, still pass the test in real conditions: the LED light strip and the absence of comodos. For comodos, this is certainly Tesla’s most controversial choice. However, it is difficult to judge without having taken the road behind the wheel of this new generation of Model 3.
Multicolored light strips have become an essential gadget. They are increasingly present in models of all brands, from general manufacturers to the most premium. Except that certain integrations of these LEDs generate light pollution that is more unpleasant when used (at night) than others. The position of this headband, very high and in the field of vision, in the new Model 3 raises some doubts that only a test will be able to resolve.
Despite some hesitation regarding the final opinion on the model, one observation has not changed: Tesla Model 3 still offers the best quality price report. Despite its flaws and Tesla’s questionable choices, this model can be forgiven for not being perfect. After speaking with several visitors to the stand at the Lyon show, many realize that the gap with the other electric cars presented at the event is often far too great. On this element, at least, Tesla has everyone in agreement.
