Social networks are filling up with AI-generated images, of all kinds and created through all kinds of platforms. But, for several weeks, a specific type of images that integrate text, other images, or geometric shapes into normal-looking graphicsfrequently landscapes.
In some cases, they are surprising in the fact that the ‘hidden image’ cannot be seen with the naked eye, not at least, until the user moves the screen away from their eyes. An example of this is the following image, which according to a viral tweethad managed to sneak Hitler’s face into a television section in which viewers send photos of the weather:

This story was actually completely false (the image in question has never been broadcast), but it is a good example of what this type of AI-created images can achieve.
The ability to overlay a hidden message on an image of nature has led to an explosion of ingenuity (or, as in the previous case, trolling) online, creating seemingly innocent double meaning messages:

How does Krea work?
Behind most of them is the online platform Krea, which, among its various tools, includes one called ‘Introducing patterns’ focused precisely on creating this type of images, specifying—on the one hand—the image prompt itself (the ‘landscape’ we were talking about, although you are free to enter the ‘prompt’ you want) and – on the other hand – the pattern.
For those who would like to join in the fun of creating hidden pattern images, the process is simple. Here’s a summary of how it works:
- Access the website: The first step is to access the aforementioned Krea web tool in krea.ai/tool/patterns.
- Describe the desired scene: In the text box titled “Enter your prompt here”, users must type in English their instructions for generating the ‘background image’. But don’t click on ‘Generate’ yet. First you must choose whether you are going to integrate a shape or text into this image.
- Add your ‘hidden pattern’ (shape): By default, a spiral is selected as the pattern. By clicking on ‘Change pattern’, a catalog of geometric patterns will be displayed that we can select. Another option is to upload your own by clicking on ‘Upload my own’
- Add your ‘hidden pattern’ (text): If you prefer to integrate text, you just have to click on “Use text” and write the phrase you want to appear. Of course, the phrase or word cannot be very long, so you must divide it into several lines in this case. When you click ‘Accept’, the text will replace the thumbnail of the selected pattern.
- Advanced customization: Krea offers advanced options for customization. Users can adjust the ‘Pattern strength’ indicator to determine how subtle or obvious the pattern we integrate into the image will be. The platform itself recommends raising it with respect to the default data (approximately 0.8 to 1, although the optimal measurement will vary depending on the case).
- Negative Prompt: In addition, the tool allows you to specify what you do not want to appear in the image through the “negative prompt” function. For example, if in the main prompt we have put ‘Cute cat’, here we can specify ‘Black cat’, so that it comes out any other color.
- Generate the image: Now we can click on “Generate”, and Krea’s AI will create the image that combines the desired scene with the hidden message.
