Microsoft will prevent you from using Teams if your Windows is not up to date

Microsoft Teams users will need to consider updating their PC to Windows 10 and Windows 11 if they want to continue using the software. Microsoft has indicated that otherwise its software will stop working completely.

Microsoft has just given users of its Teams application an ultimatum: they will have to update their PC running Windows 10 or Windows 11 to a recent version of the operating system, otherwise the Teams client will permanently stop working. The news, which risks making people cringe, was officially announced by the Redmond firm in the Administration Center.

No more access to Teams on non-updated computers

The most recent versions of Teams will soon no longer be supported on older versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11. Starting October 15, Teams users using a PC running Windows 10 21H2 or earlier , Windows 10 and Windows 11 LTSC, and macOS 11 will see a banner displayed in the application inviting them to update their machine. Mac users running macOS 12 will be entitled to it one month later. The Teams client will continue to work for a few more weeks, but will permanently stop working on Windows 10 21H2 and earlier versions from January 15, 2025, while on Windows 10 and Windows 11 LTSC, Teams will work until August 15, 2025. Users under macOS 11 will no longer be able to use Teams from November 15. Those running macOS 12 will benefit from a reprieve of a few months, Microsoft having apparently planned to cut Teams on March 15, 2025.

After these dates, it will be impossible to use Microsoft Teams on these machines. The program will automatically display a banner inviting you to update your computer. Microsoft, which has also updated on its support page the prerequisites to run Teamsalso indicated that the web version of the program would no longer be accessible on certain browsers either. To use the Microsoft WebApp, Teams, you must use one of the three latest versions of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge Or Mozilla Firefoxor one of the last two versions of Safari (on macOS).
