In addition to the GeForce RTX 4090, another card would be pushed towards early retirement: the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, a model launched at the start of the year (but which replaced the standard RTX 4080).
The supply of RTX 4090 is dwindling
If you were hoping that the approach of the GeForce RTX 50 Series would bring down the prices of the RTX 40, bad news, this deflation is not likely to happen – at least in the very high-end segment. NVIDIA has already begun the end of production of such Ada Lovelace GPUs in preparation for the launch of its new generation. A maneuver which will inevitably lead to a reduction in supply, and therefore limit a possible reduction in prices.
You may have noticed that for some time now, the prices of the GeForce RTX 4090 have been on the rise again. Our colleagues from 3DCenter.org And PC Games Hardware have published figures confirming this phenomenon in Germany: prices increased significantly last month.
The reason given: the scarcity of GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4090D GPUs. And this end of cycle will also affect the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, according to the information shared by Board Channels (via harukaze5719).
A prioriproduction of AD102 GPUs for the RTX 4090 / RTX 4090D was stopped at the end of September; AIB partners will ship their final cards at the end of October. The AD103 of the GeForce RTX 4080 Super would also be on borrowed time: it would no longer be produced from the end of October, while the last representatives of this line would be delivered by NVIDIA’s partners at the end of November.
Haro about low prices!
The objective is of course to empty stocks before the arrival of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. At several French retailers, including TopPurchasemany GeForce RTX 4090 models are marked as out of stock. Concretely, the site only lists four models available, including one with “limited stocks”. The offer is hardly more plentiful on Amazon. And as is often the case, this scarcity, which is obviously not strictly correlated to the drop in demand in the present case, contributes to maintaining high prices.
Regarding the GeForce RTX 4080 Superthey are logically much more numerous than the GeForce RTX 4090 at the aforementioned retailers at the time of writing these lines (to stay at TopPurchasethe store offers seven references). In addition, the prices charged remain in line with those recommended, or are even slightly lower: they start at 1,044 euros at Amazon (the RTX 4080 Super FE had an introductory price of 1109 euros).
NVIDIA’s strategy therefore seems to be to anticipate and maintain rigorous stock control so that the high-end RTX 40 Series are not “sold off” at the time of the release of the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. We have not of course no idea of the launch prices of these cards at the moment, but based on the specifications revealed a few days ago, don’t expect lower bills compared to those of their ancestors.
