In the case of Reddit user Ecksters, he found a good deal for a 6TB hard drive on eBay and ended up finding a case with inside a small adapter for microSD cards and 60 grams of metal to compensate for the weight of the product.
As you can see in the image, everything inside the plastic casing was glued with superglue. According to the user, by removing the SD card inside and placing it in a normal adapter, the system showed that it had 7.5 GB of available storage.
“Removing the SD card and putting it in a normal reader makes it appear with 7.5GB. Now, if that number is real or not, I’m not going to spend too much time trying to confirm it,” the user commented in the publication.
As we mentioned before, these types of scams are very common. Some time ago we commented on the case of a buyer who purchased a 2 TB hard drive for just over two euros at the market. He ended up realizing that there was no hard drive inside, the main component for reading and writing data to the device.
There is also the case of that user who bought an SSD for just over three euros on AliExpress. The result was very poor performance (below an SD card) and poor quality.
Looking at it on the positive side, these are cases where users have paid very little money. However, it is more than clear that We should not trust these types of offers for storage units of this style, since it is a crucial component for our systems that can end up seriously deteriorating the performance of our PC.
