Light and well documentednnn is a file manager for our Linux console (mostly). Possibly the most fast never written, designed for terminal ninjas, for those who want to “type less and do more”, getting graphical things out of the way.
Built in C programming language, with few dependencies and also highly optimized in its code. And like many other applications that run on the terminal, it seems easily hackable.
Nnn offers us among other things: management of bookmarkscombination with other applications such as exiftools (for metadata management), lftp either Neovimdifferent ways when displaying the order of the files or those of hidden type, filters search and regular expressions, disk usage analyzer, extraction of files and opening by applications default system, directory renaming, mode basic and detailedin addition to the usual operations of copying, deleting and moving from one place to another, showing the progress of said operations.
If we want to have information about all the list of keyboard shortcuts and combinationsyou just have to press the “?” key.
Simple To use, we can move through the directory hierarchy – which load very quickly – using the directional keys on the keyboard or almost instantly display the size of folders and files by pressing the “S” (shift) key.
Nnn is free software (BSD 2-Clause “Simplified” License), being available for the main distributions GNU/Linuxas well as other operating systems: macOS, Raspberry Pi, BSDCygwin, as well as the Linux subsystem of Windows and with Termux on Android.
Facility
Let’s see how to install it in some of the main distros from the terminal:
- In ArchLinux and derivatives (Manjaro, Antergos) we find it in the official repositories:
sudo pacman -S nnn
- The users of Gentoo through:
sudo emerge nnn
- On Debian, Ubuntu and Linux Mint:
sudo apt install nnn
su -c dnf install nnn
- And for those of the chameleon distro, that is openSUSE:
