It is no longer a secret that with ChatGPT can boost our productivity saving a lot of time on tasks that we normally did ourselves. The OpenAI chatbot is especially good with texts, for example summarizing ideas, preparing emails or helping us organize the structure and content of our writing. However, there is one format that is especially common in our daily lives and that can cause choking: PDF files. Below we will tell you everything you can do to work better with ChatGPT and PDF documents.
The rudimentary method: copy and paste
If you have a copy of the PDF on your computer, the most intuitive way to proceed is to simply copy the text you need from there and paste it on the box ChatGPT text input software along with the prompt for it to proceed.
This procedure is effective for documents that contain plain text and for fragments, obtaining the text from applications that can open PDFs.

Convert the PDF file to a text document
Although PDFs contain text, they are not always easy to edit to manipulate and take fragments that interest us (mainly depending on the type of design and elements it integrates).
So a solution to facilitate the task is to convert the PDF into another more manageable text filesomething you can do from Microsoft Word (when you try to open it, the option to transform it appears), with Google Drive or with online PDF file conversion tools. When you have it ready, simply copy the pieces that interest you.
With URL (with limitations)
Go ahead and say that although this is my favorite method because it allows you to work with the entire file, can’t always be used– It depends on the version of ChatGPT you are working with and the file location.
This method does not work with ChatGPT 3.5
The procedure simply goes through paste the URL of the PDF file, as long as it is available In Internet. Of course, you must keep in mind that with the ChatGPT 3.5 version (free), which does not have internet access, you will not be able to do it, but you can with ChatGPT 4 through bing (the best way to access the latest version of OpenAI without opening the wallet). If both premises are met, it is as simple as writing the prompt and the URL that we are interested in using as a reference.
As reads completely and he understands it fairly good, you can work with the whole, but also with the sections you want. Of course, it is important to keep in mind that the longer the article, there will be more margin for error and that there is a word limit per answer, so it is better to divide it.
With an extension
Although it would be interesting if ChatGPT had a default tool that allowed us to upload PDF files or other formatsis not the case, so we will have to make do by copying the text from the PDF when possible, converting it to another more manageable format or with the URL, but there are also extensions that make our job easier.

Once the extension is installed, open ChatGPT to see a new button to upload files and from here, you will only have to choose which file to upload and proceed.
