When Bugatti presented its new car in June 2024, many of us were fascinated. Fascinated, I say, why be surprised because the Bugatti Tourbillion approaching four million euros is almost the least of it.
Nor does it have Zero emissions label from the DGT being a plug-in hybrid. How we counted in this articlethe future of supercars, no matter how luxurious they may be, will also go through electrification and Bugatti has no choice but to get on the bandwagon.
Furthermore, the fact that Bugatti has approached electrification has not made the brand part with its most iconic engine, a W16 which seems to have its days numbered if we echo the brand’s own information, which They already made a farewell video.
Aware that we may be facing days that will never return, Bugatti wanted to pay tribute to the engine with another jewel. One that will dazzle Tourbillon owners and will increase the price of the car by 10% (starting) if they want to get the complete set: car and watch.
The advantage, you get two engines for that price.
A W16 on the wrist
Who said a W16 was gigantic?
Well, really anyone who has seen a few seconds of this fantastic video published by the company itself. More so if we take into account that we are talking about a propellant composed of two biturbo V8 blocks facing each other at 90º to compact its 16 cylindersits 8.0 liters of displacement and four turbos.
Yes, there are 3,712 pieces that, despite everything, do not add up to more than 400 kg in weight. The secret is kept by carbon and titanium, chosen to withstand the tremendous temperatures to which the car is subjected and, above all, to reduce the weight on the scale.
The watch designed by Jacob & Co and Bugatti will weigh much less. Both companies have been working for years on the launch of special editions of watches that accompany supercars. Including, as in this case, the most exclusive and prohibitive ones.
Curiously, Tourbillon is also the name of a complex clockwork mechanism devised in the last years of the 18th century. Now, in addition, the name of a hypercar and the watch that, we would say, should accompany it, also proudly display.
Because the jewel designed by both companies, they say, is based on the new Bugatti front and includes the arrangement of three clocks that are behind the steering wheel. Watches that, in the case of the hypercar, have their mechanism visible.
But, on the contrary, what is visible in this exclusive watch for Bugatti’s wealthiest customers is a small W16 engine. In miniature and in an intricate solution within the watch itself, Jacob & Co has managed to include the propeller that… Plus it works!
The engine replica can be activated and put into operation when we press a button. Then, whoever wears it can proudly observe how the cylinders rise and fall at the same rate as the engine of their car does when they step on the accelerator. For 20 seconds, magic will happen on the wearer’s wrist.
The watch, of course, is not particularly cheap. Bugatti and Jacob & Co confirmed that they will only manufacture 250 units at a price of $340,000 each.
