With its Chromebooks, Google has shaken up the market with affordable devices, including in the education sector. In an announcement it has now been announced that many Chromebooks will receive longer software support.
All Chromebook platforms should receive regular, automatic updates for a whopping 10 years. This is intended to ensure the security and stability of Chromebooks and also bring new functions on a regular basis.
If you own Chromebooks released in 2021 or later, you will automatically receive 10 years of updates starting in 2024. For Chromebooks released before 2021 and already in use, users and IT administrators have the option to extend automatic updates to 10 years from the platform’s release (after they received their last automatic update).
We work with the component manufacturers to ensure the compatibility of the hardware with the updates.
Google chatted during this time also about sustainability. The focus here is on recycled materials, functions for energy efficiency (adaptive charging, etc.) and faster repair processes.
