Google Calendar: Birthdays disappeared

Many users are currently faced with a puzzle. You will no longer see birthdays in Google Calendar. This is very annoying. What’s even more annoying is that the whole thing doesn’t happen across the board to everyone and it’s not yet known why it’s the way it is at the moment.

Of course, troubleshooting is such a thing. Let’s start classically. Previously, there were two methods to organize birthdays in Google Calendar. The first method uses the Google Contacts app, where an assigned date of birth automatically appears in Google Calendar. However, the problem is that different memories cannot be set. So check whether your contacts are linked as described in our article. Call herecheck contacts, read, confirm and understand. If the hook is there, maybe check it off, save it and check it again.

The second method of creating a birthday uses a standard calendar entry. A new appointment is created with the corresponding reason and the repetition is set to “annually”. With this variant, the reminder can be set up as desired. As a user you shouldn’t be able to change anything and this data should actually be displayed.

I recently read that it can help on this Google page Disable Business Features > Business Personalization and then to look whether the contacts are activated here. Try that too.

For the future: Google recently announced an improvement for Google Calendar. With a new update you can now create and edit birthdays directly in the calendar Android app – including reminders:

So if you add a new appointment to the calendar, you have the option to set a birthday at the top. This is essentially a birthday event that is not linked to a contact. This should also be displayed.

The whole thing is currently a wild shitshow, the forums on Google are of course full, and the errors vary. And I don’t want to believe exclusively in user error, because this contact link is already old stuff. By the way: For example, I see birthdays in the Android app, but not on the web; for my colleague Benjamin from the blog it’s exactly the other way around.
