Hello, my name is Mizuki Kuroda. This time, we’ll be playing “Romancing SaGa 2”, released by Square (now Square Enix) in 1993, from where we left off! It’s an RPG for the Super Famicom that was released 30 years ago, and is one of the most representative of this generation. It is one of the hits! A remastered version was released in 2016, and it is still loved by a wide range of generations, including Wii, PlayStation, and iOS versions. I bought the remastered version on Steam for 3,259 yen!
This time, I would like to write an article about the charm of Romance Saga 2, which has become even more interesting, such as the improved opening movie and additional story, while still keeping it as interesting as it is!
To play retro games, use Mouse Computer’s “G-Tune P6-I7G50BK-A” is used.Main specifications include Core i7-12650H, 16GB of memory, GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop, 500GB of SSD, and 16-inch full HD/165Hz LCD.
Until last time, I had carried out the imperial succession several times, and my skills and techniques had gradually improved. That said, the story is still in its early stages. The Seven Heroes have only defeated one Kujinshi so far. From now on, we’ll add Holy Order to our party members, prepare our skills and techniques, and then head to a new city!
Prepare your technique at the Jushoin
You can see the whole area on the map, but I still only control about one-fifth of the area… The beginning is just the beginning (lol).
Since you can freely move around within the area you control, I first flew to a place close to my new town. The town we arrived at was “Miles”. It is located under the Great Wall where the last Cumberland Wacha Wacha was.
As you pass through Miles to the east, you will immediately see a field with monsters. It was a fairly large grassland with no buildings, so I did my best to avoid monsters, and when I saw a village, I decided to go in.
There are several tengels (like Mongolian tents) in the village, and there are also lodgings where you can recover. When I was talking to an NPC in the village, I heard that a ship fortress had recently appeared and they were in trouble. And this is where the scenario diverged.
To give you a rough explanation, as soon as you follow the village chief-like guy who is determined to attack the battleship fortress, you won’t be able to choose easily because you’ve fully understood the free scenario system from the story up to this point… …(TT). What is the correct answer…
When someone asks me, “Will you come with me?”, I don’t hesitate… For the time being, I chose the option that I thought was “Reckless without a strategy!” “This doesn’t matter,” said the village chief as he ran out of the village.
Yes, I ran away (TT). Hmm, wasn’t it this (TT)…? Once again, this time I selected “First Strike!”, which follows the options together.
to launch an attack on the battleship
This time, things went well until the two of them left the village in high spirits and headed for the battleship, but as soon as they arrived at the battleship, the village chief fled in front of the enemy. Hey, where are you leaving me…? Of course, my voice doesn’t reach you, and I’m left alone in the middle of a grassy field surrounded by enemies on all sides, and a series of mob battles begin.
What is it, village chief (TT)? What do you want to do? While playing mob battles, I tried to see if I could get into this battleship, but it seems like I can’t get into it yet. What happened?
Unable to enter the battleship, I decided to return to the village and meet the village chief. Village chief: “I have no choice but to run away… ugh.” Don’t just leave me behind, I’m surprised you betrayed me in seconds (TT)!!!
The story didn’t progress any further, so I decided to leave the bossy village chief alone and try talking to the NPCs around him. If you are in trouble, just talk to the NPC. It’s the gold standard of RPG!
When I returned to Miles where the NPC was, I found that the town was full of monsters. It was peaceful until just now, so what happened…? I thought it definitely had something to do with battleships, so I talked to people in town.
Then, the first NPC I talked to said, “I have a good job for you, would you like to do it?” In reality, no matter how you look at it, this is a project that should be declined. But this is a game!!! Choose “Do it”.
I decided to do a dark part-time job
On the first day of my dark part-time job, I came to a strange warehouse. Will they be forced to do other chores like cleaning the bottom of the ship? I was told to wait here, and as I was waiting, the color of the screen changed and the emperor said, “No way…” and fell to the floor. Hmm, I kind of expected it, but it seems like I was fooled (…).
The Emperor is deceived and collapses
When you fall down, the scene changes and you can see the inside of that battleship. From the monster that looks like a boss, the composition of this battleship is shown in the video, and you can see that the monster is working inside.
Battleship boss is displayed
Perhaps this was a success!? We were able to infiltrate the battleship!!! However, all of our equipment and items were taken. If there are advantages, there are also disadvantages. Hmm, this is a story where equipment is hidden in the treasure chest shown in the video, and as you fight, you prepare your equipment and take on the boss… I completely understood (・ω・)!!!
Successful invasion of ground battleship
First of all, I want to get cold and get out of this chore room, which is the farthest from the boss’s room… Are you going to fight without any equipment? I tried to find a way to get through this, but it seems like the only way is to fight mobs without any equipment.
I don’t have any equipment
I don’t know how far I can go without equipment, but I decided to give it a try anyway. They start fighting right away, but since they don’t have any equipment or even weapons, the two people who have been training mainly with bows and great swords are completely useless. It’s sad that I can’t perform even one of the techniques I’ve learned so much…(TT).
However, the Emperor, who has been raised primarily through martial arts, and the Holy Order, who originally have a shield by default rather than as an equipment, will become a fighting force. Huh? Is Holy Order good? Is this it? What was the one that everyone was saying, “Holy Order is good”?
3/5 of them can fight, so I thought I might be able to do it surprisingly, but I was naive (TT). The enemies inside the battleship are only the strongest types of mobs (TT).
First battle without weapons
While fighting the painful battles without any weapons, you will gradually find treasure chests and prepare your equipment. I thought that equipment and weapons would appear all at once, but the contents of the treasure chest are very disappointing. If things continue like this, your friends’ LP will continue to be drained away in mob battles. In addition, points are required to activate techniques and techniques, and there is a limit to the number of times they can be used. Normally, I can recover with items, but all of my items have been taken away, so it’s tough… If I can’t fight anymore, I’m completely at a loss (;_;).
It was harder than I expected, and I had to make a tough decision, but I decided to go back before I started working part-time jobs.
The contents of the treasure chest are salty
When I went back to before Dark Part Time and explored the map, I found that there were quite a few places I could go to that I hadn’t seen before. To the east and south, there were villages, towns, grasslands, and deserts all over the place. With so much freedom in how I proceed, I’m indecisive and don’t know what to do. I was confused, but decided to go to Terel Teba first, which seemed to be the biggest town.
You’ll have to cross the Meru Desert to get to Terelteva, but it seems like you’ll start with half your HP in battle in the desert, so I recommend using your character controller to do your best to avoid monsters.
When I entered Terel Teba in a gorgeous character complex, I saw three large towers lined up. If you look closely, you’ll see monsters roaming around the tower. There is an inn in the town, so it’s possible to recover, and the area isn’t infested with monsters, but it’s kind of unsettling to be right there…(…)
I would like to recover at the inn and go to conquer the tower. The towers are named Terelteva Tower 1, 2, and 3, and I will start with Terelteva Tower 2, which is the closest to the inn.
The Tower of Terelteva has floors, stairs, and landings, and monsters are waiting outside the stairs. Relatively strong humanoid monsters were placed at the landing of the stairs, and even if you took the shortest route to the boss, a battle with these humanoid monsters was unavoidable.
I’ve given up my LP (Life Points) several times here, and I’m about to cry (lol). I feel like it’s a little better than Battleship Fortress, but only a little. I’m really scared of running out of LPs and losing characters because I don’t know what the future holds (;_;). I want to go into boss battles with plenty of time to spare, so I have to be careful even with just mobs. Romance Saga is definitely the best in terms of this tense combat in an RPG that I’ve played!
Start conquering the tower
As I was heading towards the boss in the shortest possible time, my nemesis Nosferan appeared… Even though they are mobs, they act twice and even have a powerful move called suction that sucks out LP with one blow. He is resistant to status abnormalities such as paralysis and stun, and his HP is high, so he is almost a boss!!!!!!!! So, he is an enemy that I am very weak at at the moment.
Up until now, I had been crying and trying to fight or run away, but when I heard a listener say, “Try fighting with the sword’s unique technique called Yoto Ryukou!”, I decided to try using the technique.
“Exorcism Sword”
“Ei”
1,042 damage
“!?!?”
With an average attack power of about 100, an incredible technique suddenly appeared! This technique seems to deal a lot of damage to enemies including demons and dead people, and is quite effective against Nosferan! Until now, the bosses around that area I thought I was stronger than him, but by flashing this technique, I was able to gain an upper hand all at once. From now on, I won’t be scared!!!
I’m finally starting to understand what everyone was saying about Romance Saga: It’s not about the level, it’s about how flashy you are. The image of a monster changes considerably depending on whether or not it has effective techniques.
In addition to the Exorcism Sword, there are also techniques such as swarm and air pressure wave that will make battles much easier if you remember them, and the enemies will become stronger, but you can also feel your own growth. Since there are many conditions such as being effective against 〇〇, I didn’t think about what type or attribute this monster was before, but now I’m starting to think about it when fighting.
The game progresses according to the player’s growth curve, so it’s quite difficult, but it’s definitely fun. The balance in this area is very much in the hands of Romance Saga.
If you flash your unique skills, you can have an advantage in battle.
Just like that, I reached the boss of Terelteva Tower 2.
Top floor of Terelteva tower
There are three enemies in the boss battle, two of which are Pyrorex and the Frog Prince. As someone who loves reptiles, I feel bad about defeating these kids, but first I’ll paralyze the troublesome Pyrolex and have it stay still.
My method of combat has gradually become more solidified, and I’ve started by stopping the opponent’s attacks with movement-inhibiting attacks such as fast-turning enemy attacks and shadow stitches, and then gradually using normal attacks that don’t cost points. is the theory. Just because you want to stop the enemy’s actions, you end up adding techniques and spells to do just that (…).
This aspect also shows the character, and I’m really happy when the battle goes as I expected. The boss battle in Tower of Terelteva 2 is easily cleared by keeping paralysis applied!
Terelteva Tower 2 Boss Battle
There are three towers in total, so next we headed for tower 1. The structure of the tower is the same as the previous 2, and there seems to be a boss on the top floor!
As I was climbing the tower smoothly… “Huh!?!?” The nostalgic features I saw before come back. It’s gelatinous matter….
Gelatina Smatter, who stumbled in the beginning or rather got stuck in battle for the first time in Romance Saga, has now reappeared here. And as a mob. Why? It was so difficult that I didn’t want to see him again (TT).
It’s a system used in Romance Saga to increase the enemy’s level according to the number of battles, but because my level has increased, it seems that even though he was a mid-boss back then, he has now become a mob. Is this kid okay to be a mob even though he is so strong? (TT)!!!
Having said that, we have no choice but to fight, so we will continue to fight. At that time, I had no choice but to hit light balls as hard as I could, but now I’ve learned from that and my countermeasures against slime-type enemies are perfect!! When I use pneumatic waves to significantly reduce my physical strength and mix in techniques to fight, I can’t beat anything like that in the past. Although the battle was difficult, I was able to win easily.
The rematch ended quickly.
Gelatinous matter rematch
Maybe I’ve become quite strong? It’s a Roman Saga system in which the enemies also become stronger, but I feel like I’ve grown more than them!! After leaving Gelatina Matter, I found myself reaching the top floor of the tower. I was there.
This time the boss is a dog icon. And maybe because he talks a lot, I find him cute. Apparently the big boss is Noel, and every time this dog dies, it gets a new body and lives forever. He asks you to become his subordinate, but he refuses and a battle begins.
When you move on to the battle phase, you’ll be greeted by a monster so strong you’ll wonder what that cute dog icon was. “Chimera? It’s not cute at all (;_;)”.
It looks extremely strong, so I’d like to restrict its actions first, but since it’s a boss, I’m thinking it probably won’t work, but I’ll try to use Mine-uchi and Shadow-nui as usual, even though it doesn’t work.
Even though it was a dog, it wasn’t cute.
Then, unexpectedly, the mine hit went through!! The shadow stitch turned out to be a mistake, but just because the mistake is displayed doesn’t mean it doesn’t work at all. Eh!?!? As expected, I received this!!! I can’t stop grinning.
I was able to safely win the boss battle by reducing my HP while hindering my movement with mine attacks! Impossible… can’t believe it……. I wonder if I’ve become this strong… I can’t help but feel that I’ve grown (…).
Clear the Boz battle without difficulty
After the boss battle in Tower 1 is over, a message says that Terelteba has been released. The story has progressed by one level, and the territory on the map has also increased a bit.
This time’s battle at the Tower of Terelteva was really fun and I was happy to see how much I had grown. The same goes for boss battles, but I didn’t want to encounter Gelatina Smatter and Nosferan again, which I had a hard time with in the first half of the story, but I’m not scared anymore! I want to keep going like this until the end!
When he leaves Terelteva and returns to the kingdom, he is told that he needs money to build a university. Actually, I was asked about this before, but I didn’t have the money at that time, and I couldn’t prepare 2 million crowns this time either, so my country couldn’t build a university (TT).
Asked whether to build a university
After that, what to do with the Avalon tree… This also requires 500,000 crowns. What about developing armor? There are many things that cost money even though we don’t have any money (TT).
The kingdom’s funds can be earned from a variety of sources, including gemstone mines and the Tree of Avalon, but the primary source of income is from battle. Maybe it’s the compensation for avoiding mob battles as much as possible… My country is currently in financial trouble (TT). I wanted to build a university… From this point on, I had to decide what to do about internal affairs, which was a different problem than that of a battleship.
Kuroda Empire falls into financial trouble
Hmm, I want to avoid fighting as much as possible, but I guess that’s not going to happen…? Now that I think about it, what should I do with that battleship in the end!!! It seems like my worries about Romance Saga 2 are far from over.
So that’s all for now! Please let me know if you’d like any advice! Thank you for reading! Look forward to next time!
Next time we look forward to
