The video, which you find at the end of this article, shows the design practically complete and official Pixel Watch 2. Overall we don’t see revolutions compared to the Pixel Watch launched last year, although this second model seems slightly more subtle. However, on the back cover we clearly read the wording IP68confirming that the smartwatch will be certified for water resistance up to 5 atm pressure.
This certification ensures the resistance of the smartwatch to 1.5 meters deep in water for a period of time 30 minutes. Furthermore, certification ensures the dust resistance and other solid materials.
Another interesting aspect emerges when looking at the back of the device. We see the LEDs in green, which represent the photoplethysmographic optical sensors, i.e. those used for detection cardiac activity and therefore to calculate the heart rate both at rest and during training. And near such LEDs we also see other sensors.
These additional sensors will serve to detect electrodermal activity, referred to as EDA internationally. Scientific literature has shown that this measurement is proportional to stress level that is characterizing the user. Not it’s about a first time: Some Fitbit devices already offer this measurement, although the same measurement has so far required the user to also place a free finger on the smartwatch to complete it.
The presence of these sensors bodes well for an EDA measurement in a manner simpler and more agileperhaps in order to have stress monitoring continuous or anyway periodic and automatic during the day.
