A Russian YouTuber named Wylsacom, who still has a good eleven million subscribers, says he has the M4 MacBook Pro from Apple, which has not yet been officially announced, in his hands. In an unboxing video he presents the device and provides initial insights into the performance of the new M4 chip. As mentioned, you still have to ask a big question mark here, because such a leak would be somewhat unusual for Apple.

According to the video, the base model of the M4 MacBook Pro has 16 gigabytes of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. The jump from two to three Thunderbolt 4 ports compared to its predecessor is remarkable. The M4 chip itself is said to be equipped with ten CPU and GPU cores each, which represents an increase over the eight-core design of the M3.

Impressive benchmark results

Apple Insiders reports that the YouTuber also ran a Geekbench test where the device achieved a single-core score of 3864 and a multi-core score of 15288. In comparison, the current one achieves M3 MacBook Pro typically values ​​around 3000 or 11800. This increase in performance could be due to the additional CPU cores.

However, experts urge caution when interpreting this data: As mentioned at the beginning, it would be highly unusual for an unannounced Apple product to reach the public in this form. In addition, the fact that the device appeared in Russia raises questions, as Apple stopped selling it there in March 2022.

In addition: The packaging of the alleged M4 MacBook Pro shows the same wallpaper as the M3 models. This is unusual because Apple usually updates the packaging design with each new generation. However, it is entirely conceivable that this is a prototype model in which the packaging is essentially a placeholder.
