Many people have little money available during their studies. In contrast to Germany, some countries even charge tuition fees. Teaching materials, health insurance and food also vary in price. However, one of the biggest challenges is finding suitable accommodation.
At the start of the winter semester 2024/2025 the Berlin School of Business and Innovation (BSBI) We therefore examined the costs for a shared room in 44 European student cities and determined the average prices per month.
Costs for a shared room: Students pay the most in these cities
The educational institution analyzed the offer of living spaces marked as private rooms on the Erasmus Play website. It is aimed primarily at foreign students who are looking for temporary, furnished accommodation.
Only places that had at least 100 advertisements in August 2024 were taken into account. In the following ranking we show the ten cities in which students pay the most money for a shared room.
10th place: Berlin
Tenth place in the ranking of cities where students pay the most for a shared room goes to Berlin. The average monthly rent in the German capital is 1,000 euros. A total of 518 private rooms were available in August 2024. Around 200,000 students are currently enrolled in Berlin. They appreciate the city’s international atmosphere, creative scene and dynamic nightlife.
