Civilization developer Firaxis has announced the official system requirements for Civilization VII (CIV VII). In Full HD with a low graphics preset and the target of 30 FPS, very slow CPUs and weak graphics cards as well as 8 GB of RAM are sufficient. If you want to play UHD with a high preset and 60 FPS, you have to do more.
For 60 FPS in Ultra HD with a high preset, Firaxis names an Intel Core i7-14700K (8+12 cores) or AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (16 cores) in combination with 32 GB of RAM and a GeForce RTX 4070 or Radeon RX graphics card 7800XT. A Ryzen 3 1200 with Radeon RX 460 should also be able to handle Full HD with 30 FPS in the low preset – every current APU from AMD is significantly faster.
How understandable is the information?
The information is not directly comprehensible. The requirements of the CPU generally do not increase with increasing resolution: Whether Full HD or UHD is not important for the CPU if the graphics presets are identical. Things are different if you want to switch from 30 to 60 FPS: Here the CPU can quickly make a difference in a game like Civilization VII. However, Firaxis only envisages a moderate increase in CPU requirements for the step from 30 to 60 FPS in FHD while increasing the preset from low to medium.
Only if the “Ultra” graphics preset significantly increases the load on the processor due to significantly increased simulation requirements would the recommendation of the CPUs mentioned there make sense – or the minimum requirements are too low.
How does the community assess Firaxis’ information?
