After the final of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 we have to be patient again for two years before we go back to Middle-earth. So far, the third season has not been officially confirmed, but we can assume that Amazon will confirm the season third season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. won’t be long in coming.
Right from the start, the series makers made it clear that they had a five-year plan for the series “The Lord of the Rings” series which ends with the legendary Battle of the Last Alliance. This battle is featured in the prologue of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” to see.
With the end of the second season, it is now increasingly clear in which direction the series is developing and which events the respective seasons could cover. We’ll tell you which massive battles from Tolkien’s works we can expect in which seasons, from the fall of Númenor to the Battle of the Last Alliance!
“The Rings of Power” Season 3 brings war to Middle-earth
The second season ends with Gil-galad (Ben Walker) preparing for war against Sauron (Charlie Vickers), who possesses the nine human rings, and probably at the start of the third season the One Ring will forge, to control the other rings.
While humans fall under Sauron’s power through the rings, the elves oppose him. However, the dwarves of Khazad-dum struggle with their own problems, as a Balrog of Morgoth has devastated their empire.
The Balrog ravages Khazad-dum, forcing the dwarves to flee
After the death of King Durin III (Peter Mullan), Durin IV (Owain Arthur) was supposed to take the throne. But Narvi (Kevin Eldon) reveals that many dwarves prefer Durin’s brother want to see as ruler. This brother will be introduced in Season 3.
Since the dwarves’ fight against the Balrog in Khazad-dum plays out a little differently in the books, it’s hard to predict which line the series will follow. It is quite likely that another fight against the Balrog will lead to Khazad-dum’s downfall in season 3.
After the fall of the dwarven kingdom, the dwarves move away and find refuge in the Lonely Mountain. This mountain becomes the kingdom of Erebor, which we know from “The Hobbit” films.
Númenor will join Gil-galad in the fight against Sauron
Meanwhile, Pharazon (Trystan Gravelle) gains power in Númenor by accusing Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) of treason and arresting her supporters. In the books, he marries Míriel to solidify his claim to the throne. In Season 3, Pharazon will sail to Middle-earth, not for noble reasons, but for fame and recognition.
Meanwhile, in Lindon, Gil-galad prepares his army and Elrond builds Rivendell, protected by the magic of the Elven Rings. Rather than wait, Gil-galad plans to take the war to Sauron. With Pharazon’s support, Gil-galad will be victorious, but Pharazon decides to take Sauron as a prisoner to Númenor…
Also Gandalf (Daniel Weyman) will join the fight against Sauron and could earn the trust of Círdan (Ben Daniels) through his actions. From the books we know that Círdan will pass his ring on to Gandalf.
In “The Rings of Power” Season 4, Númenor falls
Sauron’s capture by Pharazon will likely be the main plot element of the fourth season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. After Sauron’s defeat in Middle-earth, he is taken to Númenor. This imprisonment is intended by the Dark Lord.
As a prisoner, he quickly works his way up to become Pharazon’s closest advisor through flattery, lies and cleverness. He exploits the Númenóreans’ fear of death and their hatred of the elves Valar take advantage.
He fuels the Númenóreans’ envy of the Elves and Valar and their immortality. Sauron’s manipulation eventually leads Pharazon to also seek immortality and sail against the home of the Valar.
Pharazon sails against him with a huge fleet Valinor. The Valar who live there turn to the god of Tolkien’s world, Eru Ilúvatar, who sinks the island and the entire fleet into the sea. Only a few Númenóreans who remain loyal to the Valar and the Elves are able to survive and escape to the mainland of Middle-earth.
In the final season, Elendil and Gil-galad forge the final alliance against Sauron
Among the survivors of Númenor are Elendil and Isildur. Isildur is Elendil’s son and has a brother, Anarion. The three found the kingdoms after the fall of Númenor Arnor and Gondor in Middle-earth.
Elendil becomes High King of both realms, but actively rules over Arnor while his sons rule over Gondor. However, there is no peace for the people of Middle-earth. After the fall of Númenor, Sauron once again seeks dominion over Middle-earth.
Although Sauron loses his physical form after the fall of the island kingdom, he is able to escape to Middle-earth and regains strength there. To end the villain once and for all, Elendil forges an alliance with Gil-galad.
The armies of Elves and Men besiege Sauron’s fortress in Mordor and fight relentlessly. Elendil and Gil-galad face Sauron together and fight him in battle. Both fall, but Sauron is weakened and at that moment Isildur grabs his father’s sword and cuts the ring from Sauron’s finger, whereupon Sauron’s body disintegrates.
We already know this moment from the prologue of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”. Elrond then leads Isildur to Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring. However, Isildur wants to keep the ring and instead of pushing him into the mountain with the ringElrond lets him go.
The eighth episode marks the second season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has come to an end. So far it is not clear whether “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 3 will come. The consequences are already being worked on, but there is no official statement from Amazon yet.
