Captain Rex is back! (somehow)

First, some context: then dive in the world between worlds, Ahsoka Tano is propelled into her past. She relives some moments of her youth as a padawan, in the middle of the Clone Wars, with her master, Anakin Skywalker. All this is ultimately a test, so thatAhsoka Tano realizes something about herself, and comes back stronger.

A first scene shows her still hesitant in the face of the conflict, which takes place between episodes II and III in the films. The next one, which takes place much later in the timeline, shows a less hesitant, but disillusioned young woman. The war seems to have taken its candor and its illusions. In return, she gained experience and a combat capacity that progressed.

It is also an opportunity to remember thatAhsoka Tano didn’t always have white lightsabers. The color of the blades is symbolic: green is linked to the Jedi order. The first sword Ahsoka had was this shade. Then, she moved on to two sabres, blue this time (still linked to the order). However, the other colors it will have are not shown.

Originally, Captain Rex was a character created only in animation. He made his debut in the 2008 film The Clone Wars (like Ahsoka, by the way). The character was then seen in the two animated series mentioned earlier, but also in Tales of the Jedi And The Bad Batchwhich are also not in live action.

It’s with the series Ahsoka that this character takes on a very real appearance, for the first time. This, even if there is however a fan theory who maintains that one of the extras appearing in episode VI of Star Wars, with the rebels, during the Battle of Endor, is indeed Rex. The seesaw with order 66

This is, perhaps, where you will have a legitimate question: how is it that Rex could be in the Alliance camp, when he was a clone trooper, that is to say a infantryman under the orders of the Old Republic (and, secretly, under the orders of Emperor Palpatine)? He should have been on the Empire’s side. This is where watching animated series is important.

Indeed, we discover over the course of the episodes how it was possible to get him out of Order 66, which ordered the clone army to turn against the Jedi and slavishly obey Palpatine. An inhibitor chip, housed in his head, has been removed, so that he is no longer forced to comply with the emperor’s instructions.

It was a close call, in fact. Rex almost killed Ahsoka. In any case, he tried to do so, without being able to resist the overwhelming will of the Emperor commanding him to slaughter any Jedi in his path. He barely shed a tear while pointing his guns at his friend, asking her to find help. By chance, or lucidity, Ahsoka did not kill him in self-defense, but subdued him.

It is shortly after this incident that this chip will be removed, with the support of Ahsoka, who was protecting him – she will also know at that moment the reasons which led Rex to turn against her, against his will. For the record, it’s the actor Temuera Morrison which is located under Captain Rex’s helmet to embody him in flesh and blood (but here in armor). It’s very logical: he played the bounty hunter Jango Fett in the cinema (in episode II). However, it is from his DNA that the clone army was created. So it’s only natural that his face comes back regularly.

It is also Temuera Morrison who plays Boba Fett in The Book of Boba Fett, since this character is the genetic descendant of Jango. In fact, Temuera can return in two different temporalities: as a clone soldier (Rex) in the flashbacks of Ahsoka as a teenager, or as Boba Fett, when Ahsoka is an adult woman. Skillful.
